10 Glorious Ways People Quit Their Jobs (To Give You Inspiration)

Have you ever quit your job? Odds are you’ve at least fantasized about putting in your notice in a spectacular fashion. If you’re thinking about leaving your work, take a few tips from these people who all came up with creative ways to let their boss know that they wouldn’t be coming back.

They might not all have been nice, but they were definitely memorable.

10: Bake a Cake

Chris Holmes, aka Mr Cake, was working with the border force at Stansted Airport when he decided to quit his job. Holmes, who had dreams of becoming a full-time baker, made his resignation letter for his bosses into the form of a cake. How sweet!

9: Use the State of Montana’s Facebook page

This one was a bit of a mistake, but in 2012, a social media manager at an advertising agency accidentally posted his resignation on a client’s Facebook page instead of his own personal page. In this case, the client happened to be the state of Montana! Certainly a lot of people found out how how this guy left his job!  A spokesperson for Montana’s tourism office said: “Obviously, it wasn’t content intended for our Facebook audience.”

8: On live TV

KTVA reporter Charlo Greene quit her job on live TV. She had been previously reporting on The Alaska Cannabis club without disclosing her involvement in it. She then revealed to the show’s viewership that she was the owner of the club and would be quitting her job with KTVA to pursue the fight for the legalization of cannabis full-time. She concluded her last broadcast by saying: “As for this job, well, not that I have a choice but, f**k it, I quit.”

7: Use a marching band

Joey DeFrancesco enlisted the help of his bandmates to play him out in style. He filmed the musical resignation, and has since become an internet sensation after the video went viral.

6: Do it on a airplane

In 2010, flight attendant Steven Slater left his job as a flight attendant by deploying a plane’s emergency exit slide to leave his place of work. He is reported as yelling “I’ve had it. That’s it”, as he slid away. Unfortunately he was also fined $10,000 for the stunt.

5: Say you’re going to wizard school

Harry Potter fans, take note! A man named Jared resigned from his job with DIRECTV via a letter explaining how he would be leaving to attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

4: Make it rain underwear

A disgruntled employee with Victoria’s Secret used her last day to scoop up as many panties from the shelves as possible and “made it rain” underwear all over the store. She said: “My intention to act cool quickly gave way to my excitement over what I just did. I looked at the manager’s shocked face, smiled sweetly, and said, ‘I quit. Thanks for the job, though’, and walked out.”

3: Pretend to be Arnold Schwarzenegger

Patrick Cullen, who used to work for a call centre for a bank, used his last day to take every one of his calls as Arnold Schwarzenegger. He said: Someone who called was unable to log in to their online banking profile and I just yelled, ‘You can’t log in? Well, why not?!’ That day was the most fun I had ever had at that job.”

2: Try to shut down the government

In 2011, Brigette DePape was hired by the Canadian government as part of their Senate Page Program. She protested the then Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, by holding up a sign that read “STOP HARPER!” during the throne speech in the senate. She was immediately escorted from the premises and dismissed.

1. Deactivate Donald Trump’s Twitter account

It was recently announced that a former customer support worker for Twitter used his last day to shut down the President’s account for 11 minutes. Twitter released in a tweeted statement: “We have learned that this was done by a Twitter customer support employee who did this on the employee’s last day. We are conducting a full internal review.” However, since the incident, people have called for the individual to receive a knighthood and the Nobel Peace Prize. Stunning. So how would you do it? Regardless of whether you use your last day to make a statement or decide to just sneak out quietly, try to be kind. Unless you’ve just won the lottery, you’re going to need a new job and you just might need to ask your old boss for a reference.
